The Red Shield Concert Series Is Coming This Summer!
The Salvation Army of Kent County is excited to announce its brand-new Red Shield Summer Concert Series, which will feature free, family-friendly outdoor concerts. The shows will be held at The Salvation Army Kroc Center’s Outdoor Amphitheater (2500 S Division) on May 18, June 22 and Aug. 17.
Each concert will start at 7 p.m. Beginning at 6 p.m., a free grilled dinner from The Salvation Army’s mobile kitchen will be provided to the first 200 attendees.
“We are thrilled to invite our Grand Rapids and Kent County community to join us for three nights of fun,” Divisional Commander Major Glen Caddy said. “All of our acclaimed musicians have ties to Michigan and will be providing us with memorable summer evenings at the Kroc. Everyone is welcome to attend, and we look forward to seeing you soon!”
Parking on-site is free. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets to sit on.
In the event of inclement weather, concerts will be moved inside to the Kroc Center’s Performing Arts Center. Check The Salvation Army of Kent County’s Facebook and Twitter pages for updates.
Celebrating Community with Cool2Duel
The evening will begin with musicians from the local community playing as attendees enjoy dinner. Then, a high-energy and interactive entertainment experience Cool2Duel and their dueling pianos concept will be pure fun for all. Led by Noel Leaman, Cool2Duel has been around the world entertaining audiences with their talent, charisma and clean comedic genius. Request a song from any genre and there’s a great chance you’ll hear it come to life.
Celebrating Patriotism with Steve Spees
The Salvation Army will honor active and retired military members and their families during this Red, White and Blue-themed night. Steve Spees, a saxophonist and engaging entertainer from East Lansing, will lead us in celebration. In addition to his love for veterans, Steve will be bringing with him a vast array of musical genres including patriotic, smooth jazz, blues, easy listening, country, classic rock, reggae and more.
Celebrating Youth with local youth musicians and Barbara Jean
In the back-to-school spirit, this concert will open by showcasing the musical skills of some of West Michigan’s most talented youth. Then, ventriloquist Barbara Jean will provide fun for the whole family. Barbara was Miss Michigan in 1984, winning the Miss America talent competition in Atlantic City. Alongside her group of plush “friends,” Barbara’s musical ability and comedy routine will make for a memorable evening.
